Wesley College football fans still smarting from Friday night’s season opening loss to Delaware Valley can take solace in news out of Green Bay.

Former Wolverine All-American quarterback Joe Callahan is on the Packers’ final 53-man opening week roster.

Callahan will be the team’s third QB behind Aaron Rodgers and Brett Hundley, completing an unlikely journey that started when he  joined the Packers last spring as an unheralded undrafted free agent.

Callahan earned his spot with a terrific preseason.  The Packers did not play Rodgers much, and Hundley was nursing an ankle injury.  That allowed Callahan to take the majority of snaps in preseason games and he responded by completing completed about 61 percent (54 for 88) of his passes for 499 yards and three touchdowns.

The Packers open their season next Sunday at Jacksonville.
