Brew at the Zoo hopes to attract donors

Brandywine Zoo
The Flemish Giant Rabbit could be on display at the Brew at the Zoo.

Animal lovers will join tigers, geckos and sloths in raising money for the Brandywine Zoo. The annual Brew at the Zoo is the Brandywine’s largest fundraiser.

Marketing and Special Events Manager Jennifer Lynch said the event is a fan favorite.

"It's just a really good chance to get up close and personal with the animals," she said.

A variety of animals will roam the grounds with handlers, Lynch said. They could include a Flemish Giant Rabbit, nine banded armadillo or a great horned owl.

Lynch said many animals from the traveling zoo program that aren't normally on display will be featured at the event, too. These could include the ball python, green iguana and a five-fingered skink.

"They're the ones that go to local schools and local libraries that educate the groups we have," she said.

The event is for people 21 and older. It features local beer and wine, as well as local food vendors.

The fifth annual Brew at the Zoo is this Friday in Wilmington.
