Brandywine Valley SPCA hosts fifth annual Mega Pet Adoption

Brandywine Valley SPCA

Over 1,000 shelter pets are hoping to find forever home for the holidays, with the help of the Brandywine Valley SPCA.

The BVSPCA is holding its fifth annual Mega Adoption event this weekend at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington.

The event runs from 10am to 6pm both Saturday and Sunday and is free to the public.

Over 1,000 pets from nine shelters across the country will be up for adoption during the two-day event.

Linda Torelli is the marketing director for the BVSPCA. She says the goal is make adoption easy and affordable.

“As far as the adoption fee, it’s $25, includes spay/neuter, microchipping, vaccinations. Everything you would get on a regular adoption fee, except we’ve reduced the fee to $25 so it’s a really great value for a family and a great time to adopt”, Torelli said.

Fees usually range from $60 to $500.

The list of adoptable pets includes both small and large dogs, short and long haired cats, as well as kittens and puppies.

The event aims to connect these furry friends with local families just in time for the holidays.

Torelli says, “We’ve also brought in animals who are highly desirable in shelters here that are at risk of euthanasia elsewhere. We had two flights last weekend, one came from Arizona with 165 small dogs, another came from Mississippi with 80 puppies. All of those animals are going to be at the Mega Adoption event.”

She recommends bringing the whole family, including other pets, when adopting to see exactly which pet is the best fit for you.

In each of the past four years, 1,000 animals have been adopted at the Mega Adoption.
