Bluegrass and beer is on tap this weekend in Milford

Chester River Runoff

Delaware’s active festival scene has a new player.

The city of Milford will mix craft beer with bluegrass music at its inaugural Brewgrass Festival on Sunday.

Beer tasters will receive a souvenir mason jar and can sample offerings from 11 craft breweries from Delaware and Maryland's Eastern Shore.

There will also be a full lineup of live bluegrass acts including Chester River Runoff, a band that have played with such high profile acts as the Avett Brothers and the Seldom Scene.

Festival chair Sara Pletcher says she hopes the event will attract more visitors to Milford.

“I hear from people a lot that Milford isn’t exciting and I think we’ve come a long way since I moved here 15 years ago and events like Brewgrass are prime examples of the town’s capabilities,” she says. “People really want to be here and they want to live here and be a part of the community.”

The Milford Brewgrass Festival takes place Sunday from noon to six at Bicentennial and Memorial parks along the Mispillion Riverfront. It is a 21 and over event.

This piece is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
