Millsboro author David Salner’s latest book - A Place to Hide - is out.
In this week’s Arts Playlist, Salner joins Delaware Public Media’s Kelli Steele to discuss the book, how it connects to his life, and the themes of cultural engagement it touches on.
It’s 1923 and Bill Waite is on the run from a cruel Montana parole boss, ending up in New York City.
That’s the premise for A Place to Hide, a new book written by Millsboro author David Salner.
“He (Bill Waite) arrives in New York; he needs a hideout and someone to trust," said Salner. "And he finds both - working on the Holland Tunnel as a sandhog laborer with the first Jew he’s ever known - Virgil Pushkin Shulman.”
Salner notes that the book examines Jewish life and anti-Semitism.
He says the plot is based in part on his own life. Salner was a blue-collar worker for many years, working all over the country as an iron ore miner, steelworker and longshoreman.
