Annual State Park passes and surf fishing permits go on sale soon

Delaware Public Media
Fishermen and other Delawareans who visit State Parks on an annual basis can start prepping for next year’s visits soon.";

Delawareans trying to cope with this week’s cold weather by dreaming of a trip to Delaware State Parks to fish or picnic can start getting ready.

2020 annual State Park passes and surf fishing permits go on sale on Friday, Dec. 6, 2019.

An annual park pass is $35 for Delaware residents. Anyone 62 and older pays $18. A $65 lifetime pass is also available for Delawareans 65 and older. Reduced rates are also offered to active duty military or veterans or Delawareans receiving public assistance

An annual surf fishing permit fee is $90 for Delaware residents, while out-of-state residents will pay $180. Delaware residents 62 and older can get a permit at a discounted rate of $80.

Annual passes and surf fishing permits can be purchased online

DNREC’s Division of Parks & Recreation says park entrance fee revenue is used to manage the state’s 17 parks and more than 26,000 acres of park lands.  That includes trail maintenance, environmental and recreational programs and visitor amenities.

Surf fishing permits are issued on a first-come, first-served basis; two years ago, the State capped the number at 17,000 in an effort to manage a limited resource and to protect against overcrowding of parks beaches.
