Allen Harim moving headquarters, plans to bring in more jobs

Poultry producer and processor Allen Harim is moving its headquarters to the former Vlasic pickle plant near Millsboro.

They hope to bring more than 160 new jobs to the facility.

The company plans to use the new headquarters to debone already-processed chicken. The facility will also house the 50 employees from the old Seaford headquarters, and storage space.

In a statement, Allen Harim President and CEO Joe Moran said the company has outgrown its space in Seaford.

"This is an ideal location that gives us an opportunity to create a more modern and efficient workspace and we look forward to the next 100 years for Allen Harim," Moran said.

The Millsboro-area location is also closer to Allen Harim’s Harbeson processing plant and incoming Dagsboro hatchery.

Moran says the company made a promise in 2015 to not use the plant as a slaughter facility. He says this plan fulfills that promise.

The deboning process will use less water than a slaughter plant and Allen Harim said it will commit to upgrading its wastewater treatment process to make it more environmentally friendly.

They expect to move into the new facility in the first few months of 2018.
