The biennial Delaware Arts Summit is Monday at Dover Downs Hotel and Casino.

Delaware Division of the Arts Director Paul Weagraff says the theme for this year’s Arts Summit is “Arts for All:  Transforming Individuals and Communities

"It’s an opportunity, a day-long workshop, series of workshops and keynote speaker MacArthur Fellow Liz Lerman, an opportunity for networking with other artists, arts administrators and arts patrons throughout the state," said Weagraff.

Topics covered will range from advocacy and activism in the Arts to effective marketing and the power of volunteers.

Weagraff says the Arts impact lives each and every day:

“We see it in everything from pre-schoolers in reading readiness programs that we support to seniors engaged in dance and music; cancer patients trying to work through the challenges that they face,”said Weagraff.

The keynote address will be presented by Liz Lerman, an internationally recognized choreographer, performer, writer, educator and speaker, who has been the recipient of such honors as a 2002 MacArthur Fellowship and a 2017 Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award for her visionary work.

Featured speakers also include First Lady Tracey Quillen Carney, Lieutenant Gov. Bethany Hall-Long, and Secretary of State Jeff Bullock

The Arts Summit runs from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Dover Downs. Registration for the event online has already expired but, if space is available, registration will be accepted Monday on-site.

Delaware Public Media' s arts coverage is made possible, in part, by support from theDelaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
