Confirmation hearings concluded for President Trump’s nominee to head up the Department of Health and Human Services and Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester says Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is unfit for the role.
Blunt Rochester serves on the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, one of two Senate committees that grilled Kennedy in advance of a confirmation vote by the full Senate. That committee heard from Kennedy on Thursday morning.
Blunt Rochester said on Friday Kennedy is not cut out to head HHS.
“For me, after what I've seen from both the meeting and his testimony, I've made the determination that he is wholly unqualified to serve in this position - the issues are too important," she said.
Blunt Rochester said she questioned Kennedy closely in a one-on-one meeting with Kennedy prior to his confirmation hearings.
“We're dealing with issues like maternal mortality, and we're dealing with issues of our health and wellness," she said. "And he was really not able to answer those questions.”
Blunt Rochester says she will vote against Kennedy’s nomination when it comes before the full Senate.
