Chris Johnson joins crowded Democratic field for Delaware AG

Another name is entering the race for Delaware Attorney General.

Chris Johnson has quit his position as Gov. John Carney’s deputy legal counsel to join the race. He kicked off his campaign over the weekend at the Police Athletic League in Wilmington.

Johnson - a Democrat - was previously counsel for the City of Wilmington’s Law Department. He said one of his biggest priorities if elected would be to revamp the state’s criminal justice system. He said the AG should be pushing legislation that creates good public policy.

“We have that bill to keep firearms from the hands of the mentally ill," he said. "Bills like that, that was pushed by the Attorney General, the late Beau Biden. So, no I see the role of Attorney General as more than just prosecuting, but also pushing legislation if it needs to happen.”

Johnson currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Wilmington Democratic Party and on the board of the Delaware Center for Justice.

Fellow Democrats Kathy Jennings, LaKresha Roberts and Tim Mullaney are also running to replace retiring AG Matt Denn.

Republican attorney Thomas Neuberger has also expressed interest in running.
