Former state senate Pro Tem Patricia Blevins will take over as executive director for the state’s Office of Animal Welfare.
She lands in the position just over two months after she was ousted from her seat in last November’s election.
Blevins will receive about a $12,000 a year raise over her former salary leading the state Senate.
She also helped create the office with her work on a task force she chaired three years ago.
Blevins spent 26 years representing Elsmere in the state senate.
Before that, she lead the Delaware Helpline, managed an afterschool program for young girls and served on Elsmere Town Council and as its mayor.
The Office of Animal Welfare oversees animal control services, emergency shelter programs and inspects all animal shelters operating in Delaware.
