Primary Day will settle some highly competitive races

Delaware Public Media

Delaware voters will decide some unusually crowded races on Primary Day in the First State.

The most competitive campaign is the one for mayor of Wilmington where 8 candidates, including incumbent Dennis Williams are vying to win the Democratic nomination.

There’s also six Democrats in statewide primaries for the state’s only U.S. House seat and Lt. Governor.

Republicans will decide their candidate for Governorand both parties will determine a nominee for Insurance Commissioner.

The candidates in all these races will likely be fighting for a small pool of voters.

Two years ago, only seven percent of registered Democrats went to the polls, along with a mere 14 percent of Republicans.

Over the past three election cycles, Democrats have averaged just 12 percent turnout.  Republicans have averaged just under 20 percent.
