Path to reelection for Rep. Bryon Short grows wider

James Dawson/Delaware Public Media

Political newcomer Joe Daigle is dropping his bid for the General Assembly in the 7th Representative District in Brandywine Hundred.

That’s after current Democratic Rep. Bryon Short bowed out of the Democratic primary to replace Congressman John Carney in Washington, D.C. in April.

In a statement, Daigle said, “I didn’t run to primary my friend Bryon Short, who has done a fine job, so I am withdrawing my candidacy.”

The race to replace Short became crowded quickly, growing to three Democrats and one Republican.

One opponent, David Brady, says he plans to see his campaign through to the primary. Robert Cameron, the other Democrat in the race aside from Short didn’t immediately respond.

Short has represented the northern Delaware district since winning a special election to replace outgoing Republican leader Wayne Smith in 2007.
