Young adds name to Wilmington mayoral race

Eugene Young is the latest candidate to throw his hat into the race for Mayor of Wilmington.

Young is currently the advocacy director for the Delaware Center for Justice.

On his newly launched campaign website, Young prides himself on being a “true native son of Wilmington, Delaware.”

He touts achievements like co-founding an organization called Delaware Elite, a leadership program for young men,  and his experience in both government and nonprofits.

At 32 years old, Young is the youngest candidate in the race. Although he has never held elected office, he worked as a campaign aide for Cory Booker during Booker’s run for US Senate in New Jersey. He was also a legislative aide in Delaware’s House of Representatives for almost two years.

There are now five candidates in the race -- all Democrats -- including the incumbent Mayor Dennis Williams, current City Council President Theo Gregory, former City Council president Norman Griffiths. and former Councilman Kevin Kelley.
