A former Brandywine School District Superintendent is nominated to be the Delaware's next Education Secretary.
Gov. John Carney taps Mark Holodick as his nominee to lead the state Department of Education.
He would replace Susan Bunting who announced last week she is retiring from the position.
Holodick led the Brandywine School District for a decade as Superintendent until moving to the Delaware Academy for School Leadership at the University of Delaware last year.
In that position, he leads coaching and professional development programs for principals and other school and district leaders.
Holodick has also been a principal at Concord High School and in the Delmar School District.
Carney points to Holodick’s experience as superintendent and principal as major assets.
“Dr. Holodick spent a decade leading the Brandywine School District and understands what it takes to create a culture where all students and educators can succeed,” said Carney in a statement. “His experience as Superintendent of Brandywine, and before that as a principal, will help him support school leaders and educators across our state. As Secretary, he will continue focusing our efforts to support our most disadvantaged students and make sure that all Delaware children are getting the education they deserve.
Holodick was named Administrator of the Year in 2016 by the Delaware Association of Educational Office Professionals and Superintendent of the Year in 2017 by the Delaware Chief School Officers Association.
Holodick’s nomination now goes to the Delaware Senate.
