The Beau Biden Foundation for the Protection of Children recently published an ebook focused on kids’ safety online.
It's called “Seven Things You Don’t Know About Your Child’s Digital Life.”
Executive director Patricia Dailey Lewis says one reason the Foundation created the ebook is because many adults don't understand what their children do online.
“As a result, a lot of children are being placed in very dangerous situations," said Dailey Lewis. "The children do not understand the significance of it; parents don’t understand what their children have been up to and therefore we have a problem - a disconnect.”
Dailey Lewis says the ebook seeks to bridge that gap in understanding.
“What we do with this ebook is we seek to lay out seven things that we think parents don’t know about what’s going on with their children. And we focus on these seven things that are the most common things we see when dealing with families and children through our educational efforts,” said Dailey Lewis.
Dailey Lewis points out the book can help parents with issues such as identifying if their child is involved in bullying and understanding how predators use online gaming platforms to groom children.
Dailey Lewis says its also can help parents understand what questions to ask their children and how to empower their kids to speak up when they see or experience something online that crosses a line.
The ebook is available at the Beau Biden Foundation's website.
