Woodland Ferry is back up and running along the Nanticoke River

The Woodland Ferry is back on the Nanticoke River.

The Woodland Ferry is back at work after being out of service for nine months.

Delaware’s Department of Transportation (DelDOT) says service stopped in November 2018 so the “Tina Fallon” could get its five-year maintenance and Coast Guard inspection in Baltimore.

But when the Coast Guard returned it in April, DelDOT officials found its brand new engines flooded with saltwater.   DelDOT, which operates the ferry, maintained that “the contractor was liable” and it had to work with an insurance adjuster to determine a path forward for those repairs.

DelDOT Communications Director C.R. McLeod says they are still working with the contractor and the insurance adjuster to resolve that issue.

DelDOT says repairs are now complete and the ferry should be clear to provide regular service to vehicle and foot passengers for the next five years.
