The rise of hate groups and how to respond, is the subject of a panel discussion this week in Wilmington.

The YWCA Delaware is holding a special event Tuesday addressing hate groups.

The event at Theater N in Wilmington is called “How to Challenge Resurgent Hate Groups.”

YWCA Delaware Director of Racial and Social Justice Matt Pillischer says the goal is to bring together people who want to prevent hate.

“In response to the Unite the Right Rally in Charlottesville that happened last year, we were looking for a way to respond and talk about the resurfacing of hate groups like the KKK, neo Nazi’s and other far-right fringe groups that are really growing now,” Pillischer said.

Pillischer will moderate the panel discussion featuring activists and legal experts.

“Most of us I think can agree we don’t want that kind of hate in our society. But there’s different views about how to challenge these ideas and so this is an event with a panel discussing how and what is the best way to challenge these types of ideas and hate groups and also exploring implications on free speech,” said Pillischer.

Pillischer adds that he believes the 2016 election cycle helped fuel the resurgence of hate in the United States. He argues that President Trump was endorsed by the K-K-K and hasn’t done much to distance himself from the group, giving them the green light to become more vocal.

The event begins Tuesday night at 6.  Tickets for the general public are $17.
