Catfish catch sets First State record

DNREC
Jordan Chelton of Harrington with his state-record 36 lb., 3.2 oz blue catfish

A 36-pound, 3-point-2-ounce blue catfish is the new state record catfish catch in the Delaware Sport Fishing Tournament.

DNREC’s Division of Fish and Wildlife says the monster fish was caught June 20 in the upper Nanticoke River near Seaford by Jordan Chelton of Harrington. The fish was 38-and-a-half inches long and had a girth of 27-and-a-half inches.

Delaware only has just the one state catfish record which now belongs to Chelton.  The previous catfish record holder was Gavin Spicer, who caught a 25-pound, 5.6-ounce catfish, from the Nanticoke back in April of this year.

You can get more information about the Delaware Sport Fishing Tournament on the Fish and Wildlife’s website at DNREC.delaware.gov.
