A Delaware wildfire crew is headed to the Rocky Mountains Saturday to help contain wildfires.
The 20-person crew will join four other teams from the East to battle wildfires for two weeks.
They’ll be led by Erich Burkentine, the southern regional forester for the Delaware Forest Service.
The group is being mobilized in response to increased wildfire activity in the Rockies.
In a statement, Gov. John Carney praised the crew of "well-trained volunteers" for their service.
"Delaware's wildfire crew is a group of well-trained volunteers and public servants who will leave the safety and comfort of their homes to travel across the country in an effort to help Western states battle wildfires," Carney said. "I'm confident that the crew will provide much needed assistance to our friends..."
According to a report, the Rocky Mountain Region has nine active fires spread over 12,000 acres of land.
Currently, 28 crews, 50 engines and 13 helicopters are working to contain those fires.
