After no winning tickets were claimed this past weekend, the Powerball jackpot has ballooned to $403 million.
Just a few months ago a Sussex County couple purchased a winning ticket worth $121 million at a Selbyville gas station. They opted to take a one-time cash payout worth a little over $76 million.
If a Delawarean ends up with the winning ticket this time around, the payout could be much bigger.
A single winning ticket holder could opt to take nearly $244 million dollars in cash out of the total jackpot. And that $403 million jackpot is currently the 14th largest ever in the U.S. and the biggest since a nearly $421 million Powerball payout in November.
Delaware is no stranger to winning tickets, of course. In addition to the Sussex county couple that won in December, a $50 million ticket was claimed in Rehoboth Beach in 2013. In 2004, an anonymous ticket holder snagged a nearly $215 million Powerball jackpot and took the cash option of about $117 million.
The next Powerball drawing is Feb. 22.
