4 dead dogs, 14 others neglected lead to charges

A Millsboro man faces 18 counts of animal cruelty charges after officials discovered four dead dogs and 14 other neglected animals during a raid over the holiday.

State animal welfare officers arrested Atwood Timmons II Friday in connection with what authorities are calling “one of the worst neglect cases” they have seen.

Officers found four dead dogs during the raid. 14 emaciated dogs were taken to the Brandywine Valley SPCA for emergency care.

They’re being treated for parasites and injuries sustained from trying to escape their enclosures. Some can’t walk because of their condition.

Officers found no evidence of food or water for the dogs during the raid.

The animals are also fearful of humans and will need weeks of socialization training before they’re available for adoption, according to Brandywine Valley SPCA.

Timmons faces 18 counts of animal cruelty, among other charges. His bail was set at $60,000, but it's unknown whether he's still being held in a correctional facility.
