Thanksgiving food drive brings in over 10 tons of items

Delaware Transit Corporation says its “Stuff the Bus” food drive raised tons of food for the holiday season, literally. The 19th annual Thanksgiving drive raised 10.2 tons of nonperishable items.

DTC partners with The Food Bank of Delaware to collect canned goods and household items.

DTC Public Affairs Officer Julie Theyerl said this year’s “Stuff the Bus” brought in over one ton more food than last year’s drive.

"This year we added a Saturday (collection), which we had not done before. We got quite a lot of food at that location," Theyerl said.

The event filled two 30-foot busses with canned fruit, vegetables, laundry detergent, diapers and other nonperishable household items.
