Lenore Matusiewicz dies serving life sentence

Delaware Public Media

Lenore Matusiewicz, the wife of New Castle County Courthouse shooter Thomas Matusiewicz, died in federal custody at age 71 shortly after being handed a life sentence.

A federal judge sentenced Lenore Matusiewicz for interstate cyber stalking in February at her bedside in Philadelphia as she battled a terminal illness. A federal inmate locator tool says she died May 6.

No further details were immediately available.

It was the first conviction of its kind in the country.

She and her two children, David Matusiewicz and Amy Gonzalez, were convicted and given life sentences for their roles in the death of David’s ex-wife, Christine Belford.

Their father Thomas shot and killed Belford and another woman in 2013 at the New Castle County Courthouse, later killing himself during a gunfight with police.

The killing capped a bitter and longstanding child custody battle between the two families.
