Cold temps will hit the First State for the next two nights.
The National Weather Service’s James Bunker says that across the state, temperatures will drop close to freezing Monday night.
“We’re expecting lows towards sunrise to be in the low 30s in the Sussex County area. So that’s why we have a freeze warning out at that location," said Bunker. "Folks who have plants out may want to do what they can to protect their plants and/or gardens.”
Bunker adds this is five to ten degrees below normal for this time of the year.
Wednesday night will be even colder, with overnight lows in the mid-20s.
The unusually chilly weather is being caused by a passing cold front that’s bringing Arctic air to the Mid-Atlantic region.
Temperatures will rise back up by Thursday. Overnight lows will range in the mid-40s while highs during the day will be in the low 60s. The forecast also predicts rainy weather from Thursday into the weekend.
