Gilliam-Johnson to serve as state's new Secretary of Labor

The educator and veteran public servant fills the vacancy left by the retirement of John McMahon

The Delaware Senate has confirmed Dr. Patrice Gilliam-Johnson to serve as Secretary of Labor.  The educator and veteran public servant fills the vacancy left by the retirement of John McMahon.

Gilliam-Johnson chairs the organization dynamics program at Wilmington University. She's spent the past decade there teaching students about workplace psychology and management.

Before that, she was a consultant and worked for the Drug Enforcement Agency, D.C. Courts and federal Department of Labor in Washington.

She also serves on the boards of several prominent Delaware groups, including the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League and the Delaware Community Foundation.

In a statement, the Governor Jack Markell lauded Gilliam-Johnson’s “fierce dedication to Delaware’s underserved communities and passion for public service.”
