DelDOT reports traffic up on Delaware roads over holidays

As expected – First State roads were a bit busier during the just completed holiday season.

DelDOT reports that over 1.1 million drivers passed through Delaware’s main toll plazas during the key travel days between December 24th and January 1st.

That’s a 22 percent increase over a year ago when nearly 950,000 cars used the state’s plaza on I-95 and its Biddle’s Corner and Dover plazas along Route 1.

Before the holiday, AAA Mid-Atlantic projected higher volume this year due to lower gas prices.  AAA expected over 250 thousand Delawareans to drive 50 miles or more during the holiday.

The busy roads mean for money for the state.  DelDOT says it brought in an estimated $3.2 million in toll revenue during the holiday season.
