Professional skating, fireworks and hot cocoa planned for Wilmington Riverfront New Year's

Delaware Public Media

For the first time ever - a fireworks display, skating show and array of hot beverages will be available on the Wilmington Riverfront this New Year’s Eve.

Delaware’s Riverfront Development Corporation is teaming up with Wilmington’s Skating Club to host professional skating shows on the Riverfront Rink this New Year’s Eve.

Joe Valenti is Marketing Manager for the Riverfront Development Corporation. He says the skating shows will kick off around 6:30, and will take place sporadically throughout the evening.

“Think of the – sort of the professional, Olympic skating routines you’ve seen," Valenti said. "They’re just a couple minutes long.”

The shows will run until the fireworks begin at 9 p.m. And Valenti says the ice rink is a prime location to view the fireworks display, too.

“You’re sort of dead across from it at that point," Valenti said.

The Constitution Yards Beer Garden will also be offering a hot cocoa bar complete with specialty drinks and names like Grandma’s Helper.

There are a variety of other New Year’s Eve options in Delaware – including an all-inclusive package at Merchant Bar on Market Street for adults, and a countdown to noon event for the kids at the Delaware Children’s Museum.

The countdown event is complete with confetti canons and bags of confetti for kids.

Kids will also get a chance to make noisemakers in the museum’s studio while a band plays.
