Blue Rocks stumble in season opener

The Wilmington Blue Rocks’ 2016 season began with a loss.

The Rocks fell to Potomac 6-1 in their rain-delayed opener Thursday night at Frawley Stadium.

Wilmington struggled to solve Potomac starter Phillips Valdez.  Valdez allowed just a single run on 3 hits and a walk in five innings.  He struck out 7 Blue Rocks along the way.   In all, 15 Wilmington batters were strike out victims on the night.

The Rocks only run came on an infield RBI single from centerfielder Brandon Downes in the fourth inning.

The game was delayed over an hour and a half at the start by rain.

The Blue Rocks and Potomac Nationals continue their season opening four game series Friday night with a 7:05 start at Frawley.
