Delaware Phase 2 reopening planned for June 15th

State officials offered plans Tuesday for the next phases of Delaware’s reopening.

At the start of the week many Delaware’s businesses opened for the first time in months, quarantine rules were removed for out-of-state visitors and bans were lifted on short term rentals.

On June 8th personal care services like barber shops, massage parlors and tattoo shops can operate again by appointment only. Phase two officially starts on June 15th, allowing most Delaware businesses to increase capacity from 30 percent to 60 percent of the fire code.

But Gov. John Carney notes many other requirements remain in place.

“We are asking business owners and Delawareans to follow the guidelines, particularly around face coverings when you’re in public or in a retail establishment, and workers and businesses doing the same,” said Carney. “If we do that we can continue to control the virus from spreading.”

State Public Health Director Dr. Karyl Rattay is advising face coverings for most childhood age groups as well.

“A big piece of our recommendation that we want to emphasize today is for kids ages five to 12, which is a lot of our kids that are going to come back together for summer camp and summer school,” said Rattay. “We want to make sure those kids are wearing face coverings.”

In phase two, child care will reopen for nonessential Delaware employees and the state will raise the allowable number of people at indoor gatherings to 50. Summer camps also reopen. But gyms and personal care facilities will remain at 30% capacity.
