Southern Delaware Tourism seeks nominations for its 2018 awards

Tourism is a $1.7 billion dollar industry in Sussex County and Southern Delaware Tourism wants to recognize those who help keep it thriving.

Nominations for the organization’s annual awards are open.

Southern Delaware Tourism is asking First State residents and businesses to let it know about groups or individuals who are making significant contributions to tourism in Sussex County.

“We like to recognize individuals and organizations and businesses that go above and beyond in the name of furthering tourism in Sussex County. We have four categories that nominations are based on: Best Event, Best New Event, Best Attraction and Tourism Partner of the Year,” said Southern Delaware Tourism executive director Scott Thomas.

He says award winners last year included the Dogfish Dash in the Best Event category and Winter WonderFest as the Best New Event.

Thomas notes that tourism is a huge piece of the Sussex County economy - accounting for 16% of all jobs in Sussex.  He adds that a recent study found tourism revenue saves each Delaware household an estimated $1,400 in taxes a year.

Nominations for this year’s awards cover the period from October 2017 to October 2018.  The deadline for nominations is November 9, 2018.

Nomination forms and instructions can be found here.
