Siemens opens hub in New Castle

Sens. Carper and Coons tour new Siemens locomotive hub in New Castle.

Siemens USA unveiled its new train facility in New Castle Wednesday, putting over a dozen people to work.

The company hopes to add more jobs down the road. Siemens’ Locomotive Service Hub opened with 16 employees. The East Coast headquarters will house logistics, training and support services. Chris Maynard, Siemens Customer Services vice president, said they will also need workers with other skills in areas - like purchasing and warehouse technology.

“Our staffing is going to consist of everything from planning and purchasing on supply chain side to warehouse technology, all the way to the level of reliability engineering and material service techs,” he said.

Maynard said the company has been happy with the qualifications of applicants they’re seeing.

“We’ve had a good, positive response in coming to the area with our pool of availability to actually seek some talent," he said. "And we’re going to continue to look for that as we grow forward.”

Workers at the facility will monitor locomotives in real time from the New Castle hub and use the data to maintain and repair the vehicles.

Siemens officials said this monitoring has already reduced Amtrak delays in the 70 Siemens-built locomotives running between D.C. and Boston.
