A Wilmington artist has a pop-up exhibit at The Sold Firm Art Gallery.
Hashim Ahmad works under the name 7God and is best known for his spiritual artwork.
Much of Ahmad's work as 7God touches on his experience after being diagnosed with bipolar schizophrenia in 2014 when he was only 23-years-old.
"I came home from college and was hanging with some friends and I was “slipped” something. When I was “slipped” something it caused me to have a chemical imbalance and to be diagnosed schizophrenic bipolar," said Ahmad. "During that time and that process I was hospitalized and had to learn how to walk again and talk again. It was a really dark time for me and my family.”
Ahmad says experience ultimately liberated him and helped him recreate himself and this pop-up exhibit at The Sold Firm helps tell his story,
“The visual premier is basically I’m diving into my “why.” The reason my campaign is up. During quarantine, I created a campaign called “Buy My Art Before I Die;”that’s spent from a lot of things I was dealing with," said Ahmad. "And I felt like people were/are loved when they’re often dead and not alive. And for me, I feel like I’m a genius and I am great at what I do.”
Ahmad adds he wants those who come to his exhibit to know that even though he went through a traumatic experience, he persevered.
His pop-up exhibit runs over the next month at The Sold Firm.
