Arts Playlist: Joe Biden and Kamala Harris get the comic book treatment
Vancouver-based TidalWave Comics has profiled politicians in comic book form for over a decade - and now, it’s featuring President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in its “Political Power” series.
“Political Power: President Joe Biden” and “Political Power: Madam Vice President Kamala Harris” were released on Inauguration Day.
Michael Frizell wrote both and in this week’s Arts Playlist chats with Delaware Public Media’s Kelli Steele about these comic books.
The latest editions to TidalWave Comics “Political Power” series focus on President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
“That’s kind of the heart of these comics is trying to get to the real person - not just the politics. And then let you as a reader decide how you feel about this person," said Michael Frizell.
Frizell is the author of “Political Power: President Joe Biden” and “Political Power: Madam Vice President Kamala Harris” - released on Inauguration Day, “The Biden comic was originally published maybe a year or two ago. Another writer had picked it up and told his life’s story about some of the struggles he went through early in his life - his first wife - the car crash - the loss that he suffered. And it showed him propelling through his career.”
Frizell says he was asked to come in and update the story to take it through Biden’s election as the nation’s 46th President.
He says the comic about VP Harris focuses on her being the first woman ever to become/hold the Vice Presidency of the United States.
Both comics face covers by famed Dave Ryan.
The Biden comic is drawn by Jon Rector and Juan Burgos. The Harris comic, drawn by Burgos, includes bonus pages and does not feature any advertising.
Print copies of the biography comics are available on Amazon. Digital versions are available from iTunes, Kindle, Nook, ComiXology, Kobo and wherever e-books are sold.
Previous comic books by TidalWave Comics have featured President Donald Trump, President Barack Obama, Condoleezza Rice, President George Bush, James Comey, Nelson Mandela, Marco Rubio and Elizabeth Warren.
