Filmmaker explores efforts to rebuild Hartly's government

The Kent County town of Hartly and its efforts to reconstitute its governing body are the subject of a new documentary.

Delaware’s smallest town made national news last year when debt and a lack of a functioning government threatened to dissolve its charter.

Producer Dave Kuznicki has spent the past week filming in the First State.

“I look at Hartley's story through the lens of, ‘what is the essential character that makes Hartly or any small town unique and more so; still important in this day and age? What’s lost when you lose small towns?’ That’s what I’m hoping to answer with this film a little bit,” said Kuznicki.

Kuznicki  has already interviewed numerous residents and state legislators for the film.

“A Hope for Hartly” is scheduled for release next Spring.

This piece is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
