Wilm Film festival returns for third year

First State movie buffs will gather in Delaware’s largest city this weekend for the third annual Wilmington Film Festival.

Oscar winners, indie films and a collection of Delaware Shorts will be on screen at Penn Cinema Riverfront through Sunday.

Six Academy Award-winning films are on the docket including “Birdman” which won Oscars in February for Best Picture and Best Director along with awards for cinematography and best original screenplay.

Several films that picked up acting awards will also be on view including “Still Alice” starring Best Actress winner Julianne Moore as a Harvard professor battling early-onset Alzheimer's disease.

Oscar’s best supporting actress Patricia Arquette can be seen in “Boyhood” a drama filmed with the same cast over a 12 year period. Her male counterpart

JK Simmons won an  Oscar for his turn as an instructor at a cut throat music conservatory in “Whiplash.”

Film fans can also catch movies that haven’t been seen for one reason or another on the big screen in Delaware including the documentary Citizen Four, the riveting true thriller about former National Security Agency contractor, Edward Snowden.

First State films will be represented with “Delaware Shorts,” curated by Lewes filmmaker Rob Waters.
