Delaware’s projected corn and soybean bumper crop just got a little fatter.
First State farmers are expected to harvest 8.4 million bushels of soybeans, up 28 percent from last year and five percent more than predicted last month.
They also planted more of the legumes this year, 183,000 acres.
US Department of Agriculture officials predict grain corn to see modest gains leading to record yield and production figures. Farmers are on track to harvest 29 point eight million bushels in 2014.
Those stalks are fuller, too, with average yields expected at 175 bushels per acre.
That record was set just last year with nearly 29 million bushels harvested at an average of 166 bushels per acre.
