House approves constitutional amendment to restore some felons voting rights

Delaware felons are one step closer to regaining their right to vote after serving their sentences.

State representatives voted 32-9 Tuesday to end the five-year waiting period felons currently face after serving jail or probation time to regain their voting privileges.

The constitutional amendment would not include all felons. Those that have committed violent crimes or those against the state would not be eligible.

The proposed amendment passed both chambers during the last session of the General Assembly. It now only needs two-thirds majority approval in the Senate again to become law.
