Wesley College ousted from playoffs in OT thriller

Wesley College's football season ended Saturday in a heartbreaking fashion.

The Wolverines fell in round two of the NCAA Division III tournament, losing to John Carroll 20-17 in double overtime.

Wesley got a school-record 47-yard field goal from Eric Spiedel in the second OT to take a 17-14 lead, but the Blue Streaks answered with 14 yard TD pass from Anthony Moeglin to Anthony Leonetti to win it.

The Wolverines simply could not solve the John Carroll defense, limited to 170 yards of offense on the day while quarterback Nick Falkenberg was sacked 9 times.

The loss ends Wesley's string of NCAA quarterfinal appearances at six.

The Wolverines complete their 2016 season with a 9-3 record after starting 1-2.

John Carroll advances to Wisconsin-Whitewater in the NCAA quarterfinals next week.
