UD, other area schools responding to possible threat to Philadelphia area university

Delaware Public Media

The University of Delaware is joining other area colleges and universities in responding to a possible threat Monday.

The FBI and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms alerted universities in the region Sunday that an unspecified threat of violence has been made online against "a university near Philadelphia."

That threat stated an action could take place Monday at 2pm.

In a statement Sunday night, UD officials said that “while no specific threat has been made to the University of Delaware, UD Police are acting out of an abundance of caution and are taking this matter seriously.”  They added UD Police are monitoring the situation closely, and increasing police patrols Monday.

School officials are asking people on campus to be alert and to report anything unusual to UD Police at 302-831-2222.

Delaware State, Delaware Tech and Wilmington University also made students, faculty and staff aware of the threat and asked them to report anything out of the ordinary on campus.
