Three First State schools earn Blue Ribbon status

Two Delaware elementary schools and a high school are among the nation's Blue Ribbon Schools this year.

Cape Henlopen High in Lewes, Lake Forest East Elementary in Frederica and W.B. Simpson Elementary in Wyoming are the First State's 2015 blue ribbon schools. The U.S. Department of Education announced the awards this week.

The Blue Ribbon schools are honored for high achievement and for improving achievement among disadvantaged students.

Delaware also had three schools win blue ribbon status last year:  John Clayton Elementary in Frankford and Lake Forest North Elementary in Felton, as well as the now-embattled Academy of Dover charter school.

The First State has now had 46 earn the national honor since the early 1980s.
