The Food Bank of Delaware is beginning its annual Thanksgiving For All food and funds drive.

The organization is taking donations of nonperishable items common to the Thanksgiving dinner table, like: frozen turkeys, mashed potatoes or canned vegetables.

Food Bank spokesperson Kim Turner says the donations will be distributed to its network of 536 hunger relief partners.

We work with a lot of churches that have food pantries; non-profits throughout the state. We have schools that have food closets within them we send back packs full of food home with kids that are in risk of weekend hunger,” said Turner.

Turner says the Food Bank is looking for non-perishable items common to the Thanksgiving dinner table, like: frozen turkeys, mashed potatoes or canned vegetables.

“We’ve already gotten requests from people in the community for barrels. I think a lot of times people know this is coming so they reach out to us a couple weeks early so they can get a head start,” said Turner. “We’re looking for a nice turnout from our community so we can ensure no Delawarean goes without a holiday meal this season.”

The Food Bank of Delaware has locations in Newark and Milford, and has been providing food for the needy in the First State for more than 30 years.
