Newark City Manager search narrows to two candidates

The City of Newark has moved forward in its search for its next City Manager.

The first round of interviews for the position was held last week by the City Council. Two candidates are moving forward in the recruitment process.

Vincent Jones has been the Deputy City Manager for Portsmouth, VA for the past two years, and has 19 years of public-sector state and municipal government experience.

Mark Reeter served as City Manager for Gate City, VA in the early 90s and has over 30 years of local government experience. Most recently, he served as County Administrator in King William County, VA for part of last year.

The two candidates will hold a community meet-and-greet next Tuesday, July 24, at 6:30 p.m. at the Council Chamber.

The final City Manager interviews are scheduled for July 25th. The City Council will deliberate on the City Manager candidates in a special meeting on July 26th.
