Kathy McGuiness emerged from a three person primary to become the Democratic nominee for State Auditor.
McGuiness received 41.9% of the vote, edging out fellow Democrats Kathleen Davies (34.9%) and Dennis Williams (23.2%).
A Rehoboth resident, McGuinness got her start in small business before transitioning to politics, where she started a nonprofit and served as a Rehoboth city commissioner for almost two decades.
McGuinness believes her experience can make a difference the State Auditor’s office.
“As an elected official dealing with budget and finances, managing, leading, I believe a unique background that can make this office relevant to all Delawareans”, McGuiness said.
McGuiness last ran for statewide office in 2016, finishing third in the Democratic primary for Lieutenant Governor.
After that disappointment, she is excited to take her run for Auditor to the General Election.
“I’m very grateful for those who went out today in the blistering heat and supported my vision and supported me to be the next auditor of accounts for the State of Delaware”, McGuiness remarked.
She will face Republican James Spadola in the General Election on November 6th.
Spadola did not face a challenger in the primaries.
