There’s a new addition to Delaware Tech’s Stanton Campus.

Del Tech has hired General Frank Vavala as a veterans advocacy specialist.

The former Adjutant General of the Delaware National Guard starts his new job January 2.

General Vavala sees it as an opportunity to give back.

“They’re looking for me to interact with students; talk to them about military benefits; talk to them about opportunities; talk to them about job placement and that kind of thing. Whatever I can do to be an advocate," Vavala said.

General Vavala will serve as a resource for the College’s director of military and veterans services along with students, staff and faculty as the school seeks to improve its retention of veterans attending Del Tech and their academic success.

“Hopefully I will be able relate some of my experiences and provide some degree of counseling and advice,” said Vavala.

As adjutant general, Vavala was the highest-ranking member of the Delaware National Guard. He served in that post for 18 years before retiring in January.

In January, he was promoted to lieutenant general and in April, he was promoted to four-star general in honor of 50 years of service. He’s the state’s first four-star general.
