The number of confirmed flu cases has dropped significantly in recent weeks, following a four week stretch of record breaking reports for flu in the First State. But the Department of Public Health is reporting three new flu-related deaths, placing the total at 34 for the season.
The Sussex County man and two Kent County women were all over the age of 80 and had multiple underlying health issues.
During the last week of March, there were 216 confirmed flu cases. The single week season high was more than 15 hundred in mid-February. And more than 81 hundred people were confirmed to have caught the flu in Delaware this season—that’s the most since the state started keeping an official count.
In a statement, Public Health Director Dr. Karyl Rattay said, “Some may have the tendency to think the flu is no longer a threat, but flu germs can circulate well into the summer.”
