The Delaware Department of Justice is alerting residents again about a missed jury duty phone scam.
The DOJ’s Consumer Protection Unit says it’s the third time in 12 months they’ve had to issue a warning about this scam.
And the head of the Consumer Protection Unit Christian Wright, says most recently they’re seeing it on the rise in Kent County.
“The basic idea is that you get a phone call from somebody reporting to be from jury services, sometimes their specific, IE: Kent County Jury Services or sometimes they’re generic saying that you failed to show up for jury duty or you failed to do something else in connection with jury duty, and that if you don’t give us some money right away, we’re sending the police to arrest you,” said Wright.
Wright says according to Delaware courts, state residents up for jury duty are always notified about their obligation to serve by mail; never by telephone.
He says if you do receive a call about jury duty, you can check to see if you have been summoned by calling Delaware Superior Court Jury Services.
