Delaware State Fair starts this week

Delaware Public Media

The Delaware State Fair kicks off with its opening concert Wednesday night in Harrington.

After opening the fair last year, throwback country singers Jon Pardi with Chris Lane are back. They take the stage at 7:30 p.m.

The fair officially opens Thursday at noon and runs through next Saturday July 29.

Other performers throughout the week and a half include Darius Rucker with Midland, Rascall Flatts and comedian Gabriel Iglesias.

This year marks the 98th anniversary of the state fair and to celebrate officials have published a list of top attractions.

The top 10 includes a chance to hold a chick at the poultry booth, watch pig races, checkout extreme pogo stick jumpers and try some Cheerwine soda.

Fair attendance was down 15 percent last year. Officials blamed it on hot and muggy weather.
