Delaware GOP renounces Republican candidate for U.S. House

Delaware’s Republican Party wants nothing to do with its candidate for the state’s lone U.S. House seat.

State party’s executive committee voted earlier this week to formally censure the candidacy of Scott Walker, who won the Republican primary for the seat Sept. 6.

State party chair Mike Harrington announced the move in a statement released on the State GOP website. It said no Republican organization will offer any support to Walker’s candidacy.

Harrington’s statement cited views Walker expressed on social media for the decision.

"Walker has expressed views on social media that do not in any way represent our Party. We vigorously condemn those views and his actions," read Harrington's statement.

Earlier this week, Walker, in a barrage of Facebook posts, called his opponent, Democratic Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester an “Aunt Tom.”  He also accused many of the First State’s top Democratic officials of being racist.

It was the latest in a series of incendiary posts by Walker since his surprising primary win over Lee Murphy, who party officials concede was their preferred candidate, even though party rules kept them from formally endosing Murphy.

Walker won that race with 53 percent of the vote, two years after losing in the Democratic primary for U.S. House.

"We apologize to the voters of Delaware and our Party faithful, that these series of unfortunate events have led to this situation." said Harrington in his statement.
